Indian scientists have developed a novel metal-free catalyst for hydrogen production, marking a major advancement in sustainable energy and green hydrogen technology.

About the Metal free Catalyst 

• The catalyst is a donor–acceptor based Covalent Organic Framework (COF) composed of Tris(4-aminophenyl)amine (TAPA) and Pyromellitic Dianhydride (PDA), forming Ferrielectric (FiE) order for high piezocatalytic efficiency.
  • Piezocatalytic efficiency refers to how effectively a material can convert mechanical energy (such as pressure, vibration, or stretching) into chemical energy.
• Working Mechanism: It enables water splitting through mechanical energy harvesting, converting ambient pressure or vibrations into hydrogen fuel via electron-hole generation.

• Unlike traditional metal-based systems, this COF is entirely organic, cost-effective, and metal-free, reducing environmental impact and manufacturing costs.
