Diu Becomes India’s First 100% Solar-Powered District

Diu, a Union Territory district, has become the first in India to meet 100% of its electricity needs with solar energy, achieving a generation capacity of 11.88 MW

  • This achievement highlights India’s progress in renewable energy adoption, especially at the district level.

  • Demonstrates the economic viability of solar energy infrastructure with investment recovery.
  • Supports India’s climate commitments and energy transition goals.
  • Shows effective implementation of PM-Surya Ghar Yojana in urban-rural energy access.

Mode Subsidy-based rooftop solar installations (The subsidy will cover up to 40% of the cost of the solar panels).
Other Features: It will create more than 3 lakh skilled manpower, through fresh skilling, and up-skilling.
