The Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) are organising the inaugural Asian Buddhist Summit (ABS).

• The summit is set to be held on November 5-6, 2024, in New Delhi. 

First Asian Buddhist Summit 

• Hosted By: Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC)
• Location: New Delhi
• Objective: Foster dialogue, promote Buddhist understanding, and address current issues within the Asian Buddhist community.

First Asian Buddhist Summit Theme and Purpose

• Theme: “Role of Buddha Dhamma in Strengthening Asia.”
• Aim: To unite Sangha leaders, scholars, experts, and Buddhist practitioners from diverse traditions across Asia.

Significance of Buddha Dhamma in Asia

• Cultural and Spiritual Unity: Buddha’s teachings have fostered a common perspective on life, divinity, and social values across Asia.
• Influence on Indian Foreign Policy: Buddha Dhamma has been a key influence on India’s national identity and foreign policy, integrating Buddhist values into its diplomatic approach.
• Act East Policy: The Summit reflects India’s Act East Policy, aimed at inclusive development and cooperation in Asia, with Dhamma as a guiding principle.
