At the Emerging Science, Technology & Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled three pioneering Indian innovations
About the Key Innovations
1. Quantum Security Integrated Processor (QSIP) – India’s Own Quantum Security Chip:
- A Quantum Security Integrated Processor (QSIP) designed to ensure data protection and cryptographic security using quantum principles.
- Strengthens India’s capabilities in quantum communication and cybersecurity infrastructure.
Quantum Security Integrated Processor
- QSIP refers to hardware designed with built-in capabilities to resist future quantum computer attacks, especially by supporting post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum safe key handling.
- Secures digital transactions, defence communications, and national data infrastructure.

2. 25-Qubit Quantum Processing Unit (QPU):
- India’s first homegrown quantum computing chip, representing a leap forward in high-performance computation.
- Paves the way for quantum-based problem-solving in sectors such as cryptography, materials science, and complex simulations.
- Positions India among a select group of nations with indigenous quantum hardware capabilities.
Quantum Processing Unit (QPU)
- A Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) is the quantum-analogue of a classical processing unit (CPU/GPU).
- It houses qubits (quantum bits) that exploit quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement to perform computation that classical bits cannot.

3. CAR-T Cell Therapy – NexCAR19
- India’s first indigenous cancer cell therapy, developed by ImmunoACT, an IIT Bombay spin-off.
- Represents the world’s first humanised CAR-T therapy, a major step in precision medicine and immunotherapy.
- Supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
- Developed under the National Biopharma Mission.
- NexCAR19 is India’s first living drug, developed to make gene therapy affordable and accessible without compromising on scientific integrity or patient safety.
CAR-T Cell Therapy
- CAR-T Cell Therapy is a form of immunotherapy, a personalized cancer treatment that uses the patient’s own immune system (T-cells) to fight cancer.
- The term CAR stands for Chimeric Antigen Receptor, an engineered receptor that helps T-cells recognize and attack cancer cells.
- It is mainly used to treat blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
- It has shown remarkable success in end-stage cancer patients, particularly those suffering from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).
