Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, launched the advisory document titled “Bharat Zero Emission Trucking (ZET) Policy Advisory” at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, New Delhi.

• The Bharat Zero Emission Trucking (ZET) Policy Advisory is designed to be flexible and adaptable, outlining 30 policy interventions to promote the adoption of ZETs in India.
• Key Focus Areas: The interventions are grouped into five main categories:
  • Incentives: Financial and non-financial incentives to encourage ZET use.
  • Regulations: Guidelines and rules to support ZET deployment.
  • Infrastructure: Development of charging stations and other essential facilities.
  • Business and Financing: Support for companies and funding mechanisms.

About Zero Emission Trucks 

• Zero Emission Trucks (ZETs) are vehicles powered by clean energy sources like electricity or hydrogen, producing no tailpipe emissions.
• Objective: It aims to guide India toward a sustainable future by promoting zero-emission trucking, aligning with national goals of energy security and carbon neutrality.

• Economic Advantages: Although ZETs may cost more initially, their long-term operating and maintenance costs are lower.
  • By 2030, ZETs are expected to be cheaper to own and operate than diesel trucks for many types of vehicles.
• Energy Security: Using ZETs reduces reliance on fossil fuels, improving energy security.
  • This supports India’s goal to reach Net Zero emissions by 2070.
