- Feature:
-
- Energy Source: These trucks rely on renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or hydropower, unlike conventional diesel trucks that run on fossil fuels.
Importance of Zero Emission Trucks (ZETs)
- Environmental Benefits: ZETs help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is vital in fighting climate change.
- They can lower carbon emissions by 44% to 79% compared to diesel trucks.
- Health Improvements: By eliminating harmful exhaust emissions, ZETs improve air quality.
- This helps reduce diseases like asthma and heart problems caused by pollution, leading to better public health.
- Economic Advantages: Although ZETs may cost more initially, their long-term operating and maintenance costs are lower.
- By 2030, ZETs are expected to be cheaper to own and operate than diesel trucks for many types of vehicles.
- Energy Security: Using ZETs reduces reliance on fossil fuels, improving energy security.
- This supports India’s goal to reach Net Zero emissions by 2070.
