Mahatma Gandhi’s Views On Sri Ram

According to Mahatma Gandhi, Ram was not the historical deity of Hindu theology. Rather, his conception of Ram was more spiritual and metaphorical.
For him, Ram is the eternal, the unborn, the one without a second.
For him, Ram embodied the eternal principles of satya (truth), dharma (righteous conduct), shanti (peace), prema (love), and ahimsa (non-violence).
- Ram was these highest moral virtues personified into an inspiring ethical ideal worth striving towards.

Mahatma Gandhi On Religion and Polity

Gandhi brought religion into politics, but his religion had its roots in spirituality.
He believed in the path of karma yoga or spiritual realization through social action.
Gandhi aimed to work for the purification of politics and reform formal religion.
He gave new meaning to Rama, Rama-nama and Ramarajya in his discourse.
His own journey of continuous self-purification was by chanting Rama-nama from the depth of his heart in the form of prayer.

Conclusion

For Mahatma Gandhi, Ramarajya refers to a divine raj, the Kingdom of God that signifies truth and righteousness. This was Gandhi’s religion in politics and public life.
