Housing For All Scheme: As of 2022, the Indian government has extended the scheme until December 2024. A significant financial assistance of ₹127,579 crores has been released, with 64.45 lakhs houses completed and 122.69 lakhs houses sanctioned.

Housing For All Scheme Overview

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) is a flagship mission implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, launched on June 25, 2015. The primary objective is to address the housing deficit among Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)/Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories, including slum dwellers, ensuring a pucca house for all eligible urban households by 2022.

Housing For All Scheme Beneficiaries

The scheme caters to different income groups:

  • Middle Income Group I (MIG I): ₹6 lakh to ₹12 lakh
  • Middle Income Group II (MIG II): ₹12 lakh to ₹18 lakh
  • Lower Income Group (LIG): ₹3 lakh to ₹6 lakh
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): Up to ₹3 lakh

Beneficiaries are eligible for various components of the scheme, with special consideration for people with disabilities, the elderly, minority groups, and vulnerable sections of society.

Any household with an annual income between ₹3 lakh and ₹18 lakh is eligible. The beneficiary family must not own a pucca house anywhere in India to qualify for central aid under PMAY.

The scheme’s operational period is from 2015 to 2022, covering urban areas, including statutory towns, notified planning areas, and various development authorities.

Housing For All Scheme Components

The Housing For All Scheme comprises four components:

  1. In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR): Central assistance of ₹1 lakh per house for eligible slum residents.
  2. Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS): Interest subsidies for EWS/LIG, MIG-I, and MIG-II beneficiaries.
  3. Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP): Central assistance of ₹1.5 lakh for every EWS housing.
  4. Beneficiary-led Individual House Construction/ Enhancement (BLC-N/ BLC-E): Central assistance up to ₹1.5 lakh for EWS households.

Housing For All Scheme Coverage and Duration

The scheme is implemented in three phases, covering all 4041 statutory towns by March 2022.

  1. Phase I: April 2015 – March 2017, covering 100 cities.
  2. Phase II: April 2017 – March 2019, covering an additional 200 cities.
  3. Phase III: April 2019 – March 2022, covering the remaining cities.
