IAS Age Limit 2027: Category-Wise Relaxation, Eligibility, Attempts

IAS Age Limit 2027 is an important eligibility condition for candidates preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Before applying, you should check the minimum age, maximum age, category-wise relaxation, educational qualification, nationality, number of attempts, and accepted date of birth proof.

The UPSC CSE 2027 notification has not been released yet. Therefore, the details given below are based on the UPSC CSE 2026 notification and expected eligibility rules. Candidates should check the official notification once UPSC releases it.

IAS Age Limit 2027

As per the expected UPSC eligibility criteria, a candidate must be at least 21 years old and must not have crossed 32 years as on 1 August 2027.

This means the candidate should have been:

• Born not earlier than 2 August 1995
• Born not later than 1 August 2006

The final dates will be confirmed only after the official UPSC CSE 2027 notification is released.

The UPSC Age Limit 2027 mentioned above is expected for General and EWS candidates. Reserved category candidates may get relaxation in the upper age limit as per UPSC rules.

IAS Age Limit 2027 Category Wise

UPSC provides age relaxation to candidates from reserved categories. This relaxation is added to the upper age limit of 32 years. The expected IAS Age Limit 2027 category-wise details are given below. 

Candidates belonging to SC, ST, or OBC categories who also fall under Ex-servicemen or PwBD categories may receive cumulative IAS Age Relaxation 2027 as per UPSC rules. 

IAS Eligibility Criteria 2027: Nationality

Nationality is an important part of IAS Eligibility Criteria 2027. For IAS, IPS, and IFS, the candidate must be a citizen of India.

For other Civil Services, candidates may also be eligible if they belong to one of the following categories:

• A subject of Nepal
• A subject of Bhutan
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of settling permanently
• A person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India

Such candidates may need an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.

Date of Birth Proof for UPSC Eligibility 2027

UPSC accepts the date of birth mentioned in specific educational records. Candidates should make sure that the date of birth entered in the application form matches the accepted document.

UPSC generally accepts the following DOB proofs:

• Matriculation or Secondary School Certificate
• Certificate recognised by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation
• Extract from a University Register of Matriculates, certified by the proper authority
• Higher Secondary examination certificate or equivalent certificate

Documents such as horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Corporations, and service records are not accepted as date of birth proof. Once submitted, the date of birth cannot be changed later.

IAS Exam Age Limit and Educational Qualification

Along with the IAS Exam Age Limit, candidates must also meet the educational qualification. A candidate must hold a graduate degree from a recognised university.

The degree must be from a university incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature, or from an educational institution recognised under relevant rules.

Final-year graduation candidates can also apply. However, they must submit proof of passing within the prescribed time if they qualify for the Personality Test stage.

UPSC IAS Age Criteria and Number of Attempts

The UPSC IAS Age Criteria is linked with the number of attempts allowed. A candidate’s attempt is counted when they appear in the Preliminary Examination. Even appearing in one paper of Prelims is counted as an attempt. 

Candidates should check both age limit and attempt limit before applying. Meeting only one condition is not enough for eligibility. 

IAS Examination Fee 2027

Candidates need to pay the examination fee while submitting the UPSC application form. Female, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates are usually exempted from paying the fee.
