IFoS Age Limit 2027 is 21 to 32 years as on 1 August 2027, based on the UPSC Indian Forest Service Examination 2026 Notification. Candidates must have been born between 2 August 1995 and 1 August 2006. UPSC also provides upper age relaxation for OBC, SC/ST, PwBD, Ex-servicemen, and certain Defence Services Personnel. Apart from fulfilling the age criteria, candidates must also satisfy the other requirements like educational qualification and nationality criteria to apply for the Indian Forest Service Examination.
Indian Forest Service (IFoS) is one of the prestigious All India Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Before applying for the examination, candidates should carefully understand the IFoS Age Limit 2027, educational qualification, and other eligibility conditions prescribed by UPSC. Since the age limit determines whether a candidate is eligible to appear for the examination, verifying it beforehand helps avoid any issues during the application process.
As the UPSC IFoS 2027 Notification is yet to be released, the age limit mentioned below is based on the UPSC Indian Forest Service Examination 2026 Notification and will be updated once the official notification for 2027 is published.
To appear for the Indian Forest Service Examination, candidates must satisfy both the minimum and maximum age requirements prescribed by UPSC.
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years as on 1 August 2027. In other words, candidates should have been born not earlier than 2 August 1995 and not later than 1 August 2006.
The upper age limit is applicable to General and EWS category candidates, while candidates belonging to eligible reserved categories can avail themselves of age relaxation according to UPSC rules.

Criteria for Date of Birth |
|
|---|---|
| Criteria | Date of Birth |
| Eligible Candidates | Born between 2 August 1995 and 1 August 2006 |
The date of birth recorded in the Matriculation or Secondary School Certificate will be considered final for determining eligibility.
Meeting the prescribed age limit alone does not make a candidate eligible for the Indian Forest Service Examination. Candidates must also satisfy educational qualification, nationality, and other conditions specified by UPSC before applying.
Understanding these eligibility requirements in advance helps candidates ensure they meet all the necessary conditions for the recruitment process.
The educational qualification for the Indian Forest Service is different from the Civil Services Examination.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the following subjects:
OR possess a Bachelor’s degree in:
The degree must be awarded by a university incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature, a deemed university recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Government of India.
Candidates who have completed graduation in the prescribed science disciplines or professional courses such as Agriculture, Forestry, or Engineering are eligible to apply for the IFoS examination.
Unlike the Civil Services Examination, graduates from all academic streams are not eligible unless they possess one of the qualifications specified by UPSC. Therefore, candidates should carefully verify that their educational background matches the prescribed eligibility criteria before submitting the application.
To be eligible for the IFoS Examination, a candidate must be a citizen of India, or satisfy the nationality conditions prescribed by UPSC for the Civil Services Examination. Candidates claiming eligibility under any permitted nationality category may be required to produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
Along with meeting the IFoS age limit 2027, candidates must also be aware of the maximum number of attempts allowed by UPSC. An attempt is counted only when a candidate appears in the Civil Services Preliminary Examination, which serves as the screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination. The number of permissible attempts varies according to the candidate’s category.
| Category | Maximum Attempts |
| General | 6 |
| EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) | 6 |
| OBC (Other Backward Classes) | 9 |
| SC / ST (Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes) | Unlimited (up to the prescribed age limit) |
| PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) | As per the applicable UPSC rules for the respective category |
Note: Merely filling out the online application form is not considered an attempt. An attempt is counted only when the candidate actually appears in the Preliminary Examination.
Candidates can determine their eligibility for the IFoS Exam 2027 by comparing their date of birth with the age criteria prescribed by UPSC. Since age is calculated as on 1 August 2027, checking the date of birth beforehand helps candidates avoid errors while filling out the application form.
