New Parliament Building: The Central Government has called for a special session of Parliament on September 18-22. The first day, which is September 18, will mark the final working day in the old Parliament building. On September 19, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, the Parliament will be shifted to the new building.

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building on May 28. After its completion, the old building will be transformed into the ‘Museum of Democracy.’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project, Central Vista, has led to the construction of the new Parliament building. This building, constructed at a cost of 973 crore rupees, was completed in 29 months.

New Parliament Building: The Parliament of India stands as a splendid embodiment of our nation’s democratic principles. This iconic structure, known as Sansad Bhavan, has graced our landscape for 92 years and serves as the distinguished residence of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The Central Government has convened a special session of Parliament scheduled for September 18-22.

New Parliament Building: On the first day of this session, September 18, it will signify the final working day within the historic old Parliament building. Subsequently, on September 19, coinciding with the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, Parliament will be relocated to its new state-of-the-art facility.

The new Parliament building is the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Central Vista project. This architectural marvel, built at a cost of 973 crore rupees, was completed within an impressive 29-month timeframe.

New Parliament Building Installation of the Sentinel

New Parliament Building: On May 28, Prime Minister Modi officially installed the Sentinel in the new Parliament building. This Sentinel was presented to him by saints from Tamil Nadu during the inauguration ceremony. Prime Minister Modi placed the Sentinel adjacent to the Speaker’s chair within the parliamentary chamber. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was also in attendance during this significant event.

New Parliament Building Unique Coin Release

New Parliament Building: During the second session of the inauguration program, Prime Minister Modi unveiled a special 75-rupee coin to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence. Remarkably, around 20 political parties, including the Congress Party, chose to boycott the inauguration program for the new Parliament building.

New Parliament Building Necessity for the New Building

New Parliament Building: The existing Parliament building, constructed 95 years ago in 1927, had become overutilized and was showing signs of deterioration by March 2020. Additionally, due to the delimitation of constituencies, an increase in Lok Sabha seats necessitated more space for the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs). This need for additional space led to the construction of the new Parliament building.

New Parliament Building Features of the New Building

New Parliament Building: The new Parliament building spans an impressive 64,500 square meters and boasts a four-story design. It features three distinct entrances named Knowledge Gate, Power Gate, and Karma Gate, with separate entries designated for MPs and VIPs. Notably, the new building is a substantial 17,000 square meters larger than the old one.

New Parliament Building Earthquake-Resistant Design

New Parliament Building: One of the most significant aspects of the new Parliament building is its earthquake-resistant design. This innovative design was meticulously crafted by HCP Design, Planning, and Management Private Limited, with the renowned architect Bimal Patel at the helm.

New Parliament Building Constitution Hall

A standout feature within the new building is the Constitution Hall, where a copy of the Indian Constitution will be prominently displayed. Additionally, the building proudly showcases large portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and other former Prime Ministers of India.

New Parliament Building Renaming of Kartavya Path

Last year, as part of the Central Vista project, the road from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, was redeveloped and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8. On the same day, this road was officially renamed as Kartavya Path (Duty Path). Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi’s official residence, the Central Secretariat Building, and the Vice President’s Enclave are also integral components of the Central Vista Power Corridor, which is currently being developed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
