New FCRA Portal and e-OCI Card

The Hindu
  • The government introduced an upgraded FCRA portal to improve transparency and digital processing of registrations and returns under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.
  • The e-OCI Card provides a secure digital version of the Overseas Citizen of India document.
  • OCI holders enjoy multiple-entry lifelong visas and several economic and educational benefits but do not possess political rights.
Release of SDG Publications (GS-2: Polity & Governance) PIB
  • The Government released publications tracking India’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 
  • The SDGs comprise 17 global goals and 169 targets adopted under the UN 2030 Agenda. 
  • In India, NITI Aayog monitors SDG implementation through the SDG India Index. 
  • The publications assist evidence-based policymaking, cooperative federalism and monitoring of development outcomes.
Right to Have a Lawyer (GS-2: Polity & Governance) The Hindu
  • The right to legal representation is an integral part of Article 21 (Right to Life and Personal Liberty).
  • Article 22(1) guarantees that an arrested person has the right to consult and be defended by a legal practitioner of their choice. 
  • Article 39A directs the State to provide free legal aid to ensure equal justice. 
  • The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 institutionalises free legal aid through NALSA and State Legal Services Authorities.
India’s ‘Israel habit’ meets West Asian realities

  • India’s West Asia policy seeks to balance strategic relations with Israel, Iran and Arab Gulf countries.
  • Israel remains an important partner in defence, agriculture, water management and technology.

  • The evolving regional geopolitical situation reinforces India’s policy of strategic autonomy and multi-alignment.
UPI Goes Live in Greece (GS-3: Economy) PIB
  • India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has expanded to Greece, strengthening cross-border digital payments.
  • Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI enables real-time interoperable payments.
  • International expansion promotes tourism, remittances and digital commerce.
Centralised IT-Enabled System (CITES) 

(GS-3: Economy)

  • About the Centralised IT-Enabled System (CITES) project.
  • EPFO is upgrading to a single national database, replacing over 120 decentralised regional databases, enabling uniform and efficient service delivery across India.
  • Members and beneficiaries can now approach any EPFO office, update KYC online, submit claims digitally, and use the existing Universal Account Number (UAN) credentials without being tied to a particular regional office.

  • Remittances are funds transferred by migrants to their home countries.
  • India remains the world’s largest recipient of remittances, mainly from the Gulf, North America and Europe.
  • Remittances strengthen household incomes, foreign exchange reserves and domestic consumption. 
  • They also contribute to poverty reduction and macroeconomic stability but remain vulnerable to global economic conditions.
Robotic Rescue Mission: NASA 

(GS-3: Science & Technology)

The Hindu
  • NASA demonstrated advanced robotic technologies capable of autonomous rescue and hazardous-environment operations. 
  • Such robots integrate Artificial Intelligence, computer vision, autonomous navigation and remote sensing.
  • Robotic systems have applications in disaster response, planetary exploration, mining and industrial safety. 
  • Advances in robotics contribute to human safety by reducing exposure to dangerous environments.

  • India has the world’s largest tiger population and 58 notified Tiger Reserves under Project Tiger, now administered by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). 
  • Some reserves face declining tiger populations because of habitat degradation, prey depletion and human pressures.
  • Restoration focuses on habitat improvement, corridor connectivity, voluntary relocation from core areas and scientific monitoring.
  • Healthy tiger populations also conserve entire forest ecosystems under the umbrella species concept.
Bonn Climate Talks: Climate Tipping Points

(GS-3: Environment)

The Hindu
  • The Bonn Climate Change Conference (SB62) is the annual mid-year meeting under the UNFCCC, held in Bonn, Germany, to prepare negotiations for COP.
  • Climate tipping points are critical thresholds beyond which small increases in temperature trigger irreversible changes in Earth’s systems.
  • Major tipping elements include the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, Amazon rainforest, Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), Arctic permafrost and coral reefs. 
  • Crossing tipping points can accelerate sea-level rise, biodiversity loss and extreme weather, making climate adaptation more difficult.
Integrated Climate Action (GS-3: Environment) The Hindu
  • Integrated climate action combines mitigation, adaptation and sustainable development rather than treating them separately.
  • It promotes climate-resilient infrastructure, renewable energy, nature-based solutions and disaster risk reduction. 
  • India follows this approach through the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC), State Action Plans and Mission LiFE.
  • The approach supports achievement of the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
India adds 709 new species to its faunal database in 2025, 353 taxa to its flora (GS-3: Environment) The Hindu
  • India is strengthening national biodiversity databases for flora and fauna documentation.
  • The databases support species identification, conservation planning and ecological research. 
  • They complement the work of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Botanical Survey of India (BSI) and the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA).
  • Reliable biodiversity data are essential for implementing the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and global biodiversity commitments.
Bangladesh joins International Big Cat Alliance as new member, count reaches 27

  • The International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) was launched by India in 2023.
  • It promotes conservation of seven major big cat species—Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Cheetah, Jaguar and Puma.
  • The Alliance encourages research, capacity building, financial support and transboundary conservation.
  • Bangladesh’s membership strengthens regional cooperation for tiger conservation in the Sundarbans landscape.
