PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana with 24000 cr Annual Outlay

PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: The Government of India has launched the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) on July 16, 2025. This programme aims at boosting the income and productivity of farmers.

The Union cabinet approved the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, which will improve post-harvest storage capacity, irrigation infrastructure, and agricultural productivity. The scheme will run for six years, starting from the financial year 2025–26. Through the PMDDKY scheme, the government aims to benefit around 17 million farmers across 100 selected districts in India.

What is PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana?

PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana is a national-level agricultural development scheme that focuses on improving crop production, diversifying farming methods, and creating better post-harvest facilities. This is the first scheme focused entirely on agriculture and allied sectors. It targets 100 districts that show the highest potential for growth and improvement in these areas.

The scheme uses a convergence model. This means the scheme will bring together resources from multiple government schemes and departments to create a focused plan for each district. This way, farmers will receive necessary support in multiple areas, such as seeds, water, credit, and market access. All these aspects aim at helping farmers improve their overall income and sustainability.

Objective of PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

Although India produces record amounts of food grains, fruits, and vegetables, there are still large differences in productivity between different regions. The PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana aims to create a balanced agricultural growth across the country. This scheme is introduced with the motive to reduce these gaps by giving extra attention to districts that have been left behind.

The main goals of this scheme are:

  • Increase agricultural productivity in underperforming districts.
  • Promote crop diversification and sustainable farming practices.
  • Improve post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels.
  • Enhance irrigation facilities.
  • Make both long-term and short-term credit more accessible to farmers.
  • Support natural and organic farming methods.
  • Reduce regional differences in farming output and credit availability.

Features of PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

One of the main features of this scheme is that it allows each district to create its own plan based on local climate, soil, and farming needs. This individual level plan will be created after consulting the farmers and experts.

Here are some important features of the scheme:

  • The scheme will be implemented in 100 districts selected from across India.
  • These districts will be selected based on three key criteria, including low crop productivity, low cropping intensity, and ineffective credit facilities available to farmers.
  • Each state will have at least one district included under the scheme.
  • A District Dhan Dhaanya Samiti, which includes experienced farmers will be led by the District Collector. This samiti will plan and implement the scheme locally.
  • Committees at the district, state, and national levels will ensure proper monitoring and coordination.
  • Progress will be tracked using 117 key performance indicators through an online dashboard.
  • The scheme follows a convergence model, bringing together resources from 36 existing schemes across 11 ministries, such as agriculture, rural development, animal husbandry, finance, irrigation, and more.
