UPSC Attempt for SC/ST: Candidates from the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories have certain benefits in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. These benefits include relaxed age limits, unlimited attempts, and reserved seats, which provide an advantage in the competitive exam. One of the most notable benefits for SC/ST candidates is the unlimited number of attempts in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, up to the upper age limit. While candidates from other categories have a limited number of attempts, SC/ST candidates can attempt the exam as many times as they wish. However, they have to attempt to do so within the prescribed age limit.

The age relaxation for SC/ST candidates is also provided to the SC/ST candidates by the UPSC. SC/ST candidates get the age relaxation of 5 years compared to the general category (upper age limit of 32 years). Therefore, candidates can appear for the exam until the age of 37 years.
If you are in the SC/ST category and also fall under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) or Ex-servicemen categories, you can receive additional age relaxation based on both categories.

SC/ST candidates benefit from reserved seats in the UPSC examination, ensuring equitable representation in government services. The current reservation policy provides reservations in the total number of vacancies filled through the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Here is the SC/ST reservation for UPSC:

To be eligible for the UPSC examination, candidates must be at least 21 years old and not more than 32 years old as of August 1st of the examination year. However, there are age relaxations for candidates belonging to different categories, as mentioned below:

To avail the benefits of reservation in UPSC, SC/ST candidates must possess valid documentation proving their eligibility. This includes submitting a valid Caste Certificate issued by a competent authority. The certificate must clearly state that the candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe as recognized by the Constitution of India.
