The highest position within the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is that of the Cabinet Secretary. Upon commencing their careers, IAS officials undergo district training in their respective home cadres, followed by their initial assignments. As part of their training, a new role of assistant secretary in the Central Secretariat has been introduced, enabling newly appointed IAS officers to be stationed in Delhi for a three-month assignment.
