UPSC Prelims Marking Scheme 2027

Understanding the marking scheme helps you attempt the paper smartly.

  • Each correct answer in GS Paper 1 gets 2 marks.
  • Each correct answer in CSAT gets 2.5 marks.
  • For every wrong answer, 1/3rd of the marks allotted to that question is deducted. This is called negative marking.
  • If you mark more than one answer for a question, even if one is correct, it is treated as a wrong answer, and the same negative marking applies.
  • There is no penalty for questions you leave unattempted.
  • CSAT marks are not counted in the merit list. You only need 33% to qualify it. Only GS Paper 1 marks decide your Prelims cut-off and rank for Mains shortlisting.
