  • The 11th edition of the World Government Summit (WGS) is taking place from February 12 to 14, 2024, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 
  • The Indian Prime Minister will participate in the World Government Summit 2024 as a guest of honour and deliver a special keynote address.

World Government Summit 2024: Dubai, UAE

  • World Government Summit 2024 Theme: Shaping Future Governments.
  • Aim: To anticipate future opportunities and challenges while addressing pressing global issues.
    • It brings together leaders, experts, and visionaries from around the world to anticipate future opportunities and address pressing global challenges.
    • It will involve governments, international organizations, thought leaders, and private sector leaders from around the globe to international cooperation and enable governments to identify innovative solutions for future challenges– further rippling to inspire and empower the next generation of governments.

The summit will cover six main themes through 15 global forums and over 110 interactive dialogues and sessions.

Sustainability and Global Governance
  • Sustainability is increasingly influencing global governance and the economy, with a specific focus on food, water, and energy security. 
  • Collaborative efforts from governments, businesses, and individuals are required to ensure sustainable practices for equitable and resilient resource access.
Urbanization and Global Health Priorities
  • Addressing the challenges and opportunities arising from urbanization in relation to global health.

India-UAE Relations: Political, Economic, Tarde, and Cultural Relations

  • Strengthening Relationship: It is the Indian Prime Minister’s seventh visit to the UAE since 2015 and the third in the past eight months, reflecting the close ties between the leadership of the two countries.
  • Trade Pacts: Two countries signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in February 2022 and a Local Currency Settlement (LCS) System in July 2023 to promote the use of the Indian rupee and UAE dirham for cross-border transactions.
  • Bilateral Trade: The two countries are among each other’s top trading partners, with two-way trade of $85 billion during 2022-23. 
    • The UAE is among the top four investors in India in terms of foreign direct investments during 2022-23.
  • People to People Contact: About 3.5 Indians live in the UAE, making up the largest expatriate group in the emirates. 
    • Their positive contributions to the development of their host country have been an important anchor of our excellent bilateral engagement with the UAE.
