Is There a Separate Attempt Limit for IFoS?

Many aspirants wonder whether there is a separate IFoS attempt limit 2027 for the Indian Forest Service Examination.

The answer is no.

The Indian Forest Service uses the Civil Services Preliminary Examination as its screening test. Since both examinations share the same Preliminary Examination, the attempt policy also follows the Civil Services Examination rules prescribed by UPSC.

Candidates applying for IFoS should understand that appearing in the Civil Services Preliminary Examination for the purpose of the Indian Forest Service is treated as an attempt according to UPSC rules.

The indian forest service attempt limit 2027 depends on the category of the candidate. However, every applicant must remain within the applicable age limit and fulfill all prescribed eligibility conditions throughout the examination process.

How Are Attempts Counted in IFoS?

Many candidates are confused about when an attempt is counted.

According to UPSC rules, an attempt is counted only when a candidate actually appears in at least one paper of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination while applying for the Indian Forest Service Examination.

An attempt is counted under the following circumstances:

  • Merely filling the application form does not count as an attempt.
  • If a candidate does not appear in any paper of the Preliminary Examination, no attempt is counted.
  • Appearing in even one paper of the Preliminary Examination is treated as one valid attempt.
  • An attempt is counted even if the candidature is later cancelled or the candidate is disqualified.

The ifos number of attempts available to a candidate reduces only after such a valid appearance in the Preliminary Examination.

Candidates often ask how many attempts for IFoS are available. The answer depends entirely on the candidate’s category and whether they continue to satisfy the prescribed age and eligibility conditions.

IFoS Attempt Limit 2027 Category-wise

Since the IFoS Preliminary Examination is conducted through the Civil Services Preliminary Examination, the following attempt limits apply for reference.
