How the UPSC CSE Final Result 2023 will be Evaluated

The UPSC CSE (Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination) final result is evaluated based on a candidate’s performance in three stages:

  • Preliminary Examination: This is the first stage of the UPSC CSE and consists of two objective-type papers. The scores obtained in the Preliminary Examination are only qualifying in nature and are used to select candidates for the Main Examination. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted in the final result.
  • Main Examination: Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination are eligible to appear for the Main Examination. The Main Examination consists of nine papers, out of which two papers are qualifying in nature (English and one Indian language paper) and seven papers are counted for merit. The seven papers counted for merit include Essay, General Studies (GS) Papers I, II, III, and IV, and two papers on an optional subject chosen by the candidate.
  • Personality Test (Interview): Candidates who cleared the UPSC CSE Main Examination are called for a Personality Test, commonly known as the interview. The interview is conducted to assess the candidate’s personality, suitability for a career in civil services, and depth of knowledge.

The UPSC CSE exam Result depends on how well candidates perform in the mains and interview stages. While the Prelims serve as a qualifying round, their scores don’t factor into the final merit list. Among the UPSC CSE Main written exam papers, only seven are considered for scoring, which are then combined with the marks from the interview stage. Candidates’ final rankings are determined based on their total marks out of 2,025.

UPSC CSE Mains Result 2023

The UPSC CSE Main Exam marks the Second Stage in the selection procedure for esteemed positions such as IAS, IFS, and various Group A and B services. It covers  nine written examinations, comprising obligatory and elective subjects.
