Candidates belonging to categories 2, 3, 4, and 5 must provide a certificate of eligibility issued by the Indian government. They can take the exam before obtaining the certificate, but they will only receive the appointment offer after the certificate has been issued.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, applicants who were unable to appear for the exam have requested an extra attempt and relaxation of the UPSC age limit. However, as per the latest news, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) is not in favor of providing an additional attempt or relaxing the IAS age limit. DoPT has stated that any alteration of the UPSC age limit or the number of attempts allowed due to the Covid-19 outbreak might lead to similar demands from other groups of applicants and could affect the chances of other candidates.
