Pranjal Patil UPSC topper
  • The  journey of Pranjal Patil is the inspiring tale of triumph over adversity, as a visually impaired individual achieved what many think is impossible. 
  • At the age of 26, she secured an all-India rank of 773 in 2016 and AIR 124 in 2017, earning her a coveted position in the Indian Administrative Service. 
  • She is a resident of Mumbai who faced a significant setback at the tender age of 6 when she lost one eye due to an unfortunate school incident and later she lost sight in her other eye too.
  • Defeating all these obstacles and these challenges, she remained undeterred, consistently excelling as a topper throughout her academic journey.
  • In her interview she revealed that she utilized assistive technology, including the JAWS software, to read computer screens. Notably, she did not undergo formal coaching and attributes her success to the unwavering support of her parents, friends, and husband.
Ajit Kumar Yadav UPSC topper
  • He lost his eyesight due to an illness in childhood, and he cleared the UPSC CSE exam in 2008 with the rank of 208. Despite this, he had to fight for a place in the civil services. 
  • Due to some medical condition he was first offered a post in the Indian Railway Personnel Service. Even after a favorable verdict by the Central Administrative Tribunal in 2010, he wasn’t offered an IAS post. 
  • Finally, only after the intervention of the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled Ajit Yadav was taken into the IAS. 
  • Yadav, whose academic studies happened in an era (the early ’90s) when technology was not so developed for the disabled like today, is truly an inspiration to young people everywhere.
NL Beno Zephine UPSC topper
  • In 2005, Beno Zephine achieved the historical place by becoming the first 100% blind candidate to enter into the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). 
  • Hailing from Chennai, the girl was only 25 years when she cleared the civil services exam. She had been till then juggling between getting a doctorate in English Literature and a Probationary Officer’s job with the State Bank of India. 
  • She dedicated her success to her teachers and trainers, and her parents for their unwavering support. She used Job Access With Speech (JAWS) software that allows visually handicapped people to read from a computer screen. 
  • Beno Zephine had secured AIR 343 in the UPSC CSE 2014.
Kanishk Kataria UPSC topper
  • In UPSC  CSE 2018 he scored All India Rank 1 after resigning from a high-paying private job to serve the country in his very first attempt.
  • Although he was confident about his preparation, he was not expecting the first rank. What is moving out of his story is that he left a job abroad where he was earning almost one crore as salary, in order to become an IAS officer and work for the benefit of the country and her people. 
  • He achieved this feat by sheer hard work without worrying about the results much. He studied almost 14 hours every day and shut himself off from all social media. He attended coaching in Delhi, although his preparation style was a mix of self-studies and coaching-assisted.
