GS II: Effect of policies and politics of developed and developing countries on India’s interests.
Context: Pakistan’s expanding engagement with Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and other West Asian countries indicates a growing westward strategic orientation. While this can provide strategic depth and diplomatic leverage, expanding commitments may also create the risk of strategic overstretch.
Pakistan’s westward turn may provide strategic depth, financial support and diplomatic leverage, but excessive external commitments could produce strategic overstretch. For India, the appropriate response is not alarmism but deeper Gulf engagement, strategic autonomy and sustained regional balancing.
