Context: The Royal Indian Navy Mutiny of 1946 began over racial discrimination, poor conditions and colonial repression, but evolved into a wider anti-colonial uprising. Its spread among armed forces and civilians weakened British confidence and accelerated independence.
The Royal Indian Navy Mutiny of 1946 transcended service grievances, becoming a symbol of anti-colonial nationalism. Its spread among naval bases, civilians and sections of the armed forces signalled weakening British control and accelerated India’s independence in 1947.
