About Shekhawati Havelis

• The Shekhawati Havelis are elaborately decorated merchant mansions known for their fresco murals and ornate architecture.
• Synthesis: The havelis reflect a blend of Rajput, Mughal and European architectural styles, built by wealthy Marwari merchants during the 18th–19th centuries.
• Named After: The Shekhawati region is named after Rao Shekha, the 15th-century Kachhwaha Rajput ruler who established his authority in the region.
• Key Features of Shekhawati Havelis:
  • Fresco Art: Local chiteras (artisans) developed distinctive fresco and fresco-secco techniques, traditionally using mineral and vegetable pigments.
  • Themes: Fresco paintings depict mythology, folklore, royal life, and colonial-era technologies such as railways, motorcars, and airplanes.
  • Courtyards (Chowks): Separate public and private spaces while facilitating natural ventilation.
  • Jharokhas: Characteristic overhanging balconies of traditional Rajasthani architecture.

About the UNESCO Tentative List

• It is a national inventory of cultural and natural heritage sites that a country considers suitable for future inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
• Prepared by: Each State Party to the World Heritage Convention prepares and submits its own Tentative List.
• Mandatory Stage: A property must be included in the Tentative List before it can be nominated for World Heritage status.
• Selection Basis: Sites should have the potential to demonstrate Outstanding Universal Value (OUV).
• Status: Inclusion does not confer World Heritage Site status; it indicates the site’s potential for future nomination.
• India’s UNESCO Tentative List: India has 73 sites on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List (as of June 2026).

DAC Clears Defence Procurement Proposals

Context: The Defence Acquisition Council approved defence procurements worth ₹1.10 lakh crore, with nearly 98% planned from Indian industry.

Key Procurements 

• Army: Mobility & Operational Capability
  • Approved CBRN reconnaissance vehicles, High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs), Self-Propelled Mechanical Mine Layers (MMLs), Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs), trawl tanks and the Sarvatra Bridge System.
  • The Sarvatra Bridging System is a truck-mounted, multi-span mobile mechanical bridge designed to rapidly cross wet and dry gaps during military operations.
  • It was designed by DRDO’s Research & Development Establishment (Engineers) and is manufactured by BEML with industry partners.
• Navy: Surveillance & Indigenous Propulsion
  • Approved Arudhra radars to replace existing air-route surveillance radars at naval air stations.
  • Approved the design, development and subsequent procurement of Marine Gas Turbines (MGTs) for warship propulsion, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.
• Air Force: Electronic Warfare & Combat Capability
  • Approved proposals to strengthen the capabilities of fighter aircraft, transport aircraft and helicopters.
  • Ground-Based Multi-Purpose Jammers (GBMPJs) will provide jamming capabilities against adversary radars.
• Secure Military Identification: Approved Defence Forces Secure Access Card (DEFSAC) to replace paper-based identity cards, passes and permits with interoperable RFID-based smart cards.

About Defence Acquisition Council (DAC)

• The DAC is the highest decision-making body for capital defence procurements in India.
• It was constituted in 2001 following the recommendations of the Group of Ministers after the Kargil War.
• Structure
  • Chairman: Raksha Mantri.
  • Members: Raksha Rajya Mantris, Chief of Defence Staff and Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force.
  • Other Members: Defence Secretary and Secretaries of Defence Production, Defence R&D and Defence Finance.

• Key Role

Context: Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum in New Delhi is being developed as a globally significant museum celebrating India’s civilisational continuity.

About Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum

• The Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum is planned as the world’s largest museum, located in North Block and South Block in New Delhi, integrating India’s heritage with modern museum technology.
• Designed By: The museum is being designed by a consortium led by Thailand-born, Los Angeles-based architect and designer Kulapat Yantrasast.
  • Kulapat Yantrasast is known for renovation of New York’s MET Museum in 2025, and a museographic overhaul at the Louvre in Paris.
• Nodal Ministry: The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is the nodal ministry responsible for the project and is involving artisans and craftsmen from across India.

• Thematic Display: Collections organised around themes like adornment, architecture, astrology and cosmology, rather than chronology or region.
• Heritage Retrofitting: North & South Blocks retained as museum spaces, preserving frescoes, motifs and historic rooms.

Swachh Vayu Survekshan 2026

Context: Swachh Vayu Survekshan 2026 ranked Lucknow first among million-plus cities with 198/200 points.

About Swachh Vayu Survekshan

• It is an annual city-level assessment under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) that evaluates pollution-control measures and improvements in urban air quality.
• Launch: It is implemented under the NCAP, launched in January 2019 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) to improve air quality through city-specific action plans.
• Cities are assessed in three population-based categories
  • Above 10 lakh,
  • 3–10 lakh, and 
  • Below 3 lakh.
• Parameters Measured: The assessment covers vehicular emissions, road dust, construction and demolition dust, industrial emissions, waste management, open waste burning, air-quality monitoring and implementation of clean-air action plans.
• Pollution Targets: The revised NCAP framework aims for up to 40% reduction in PM10 concentration or achievement of National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) against the 2017–18 baseline.

Factors Improving Lucknow’s Air Quality

• Cleaner Mobility: Lucknow expanded electric mobility, including 140 electric buses and around 1,100 electric waste-collection vehicles, supported by charging infrastructure.
• Road-Dust Control: 97 electric mechanised sweeping machines and paving of approximately 559.85 km of roads helped reduce re-suspended road dust.
• Scientific Waste Management: The city established a scientific processing capacity of 2,550 tonnes of municipal waste per day, while efforts were made to prevent open waste burning.
• Green-Cover Expansion: Miyawaki plantations and vertical gardens were adopted to increase greenery despite limited space in the expanding urban landscape.
• Local-Level Participation: Clean-air measures were taken down to the ward level, with Lucknow’s Ward-70 ranking first nationally among wards with populations above 30,000.
• Continued Effort: Despite a 45.2% decline in annual PM10 from 250 µg/m³ in 2017–18 to 137 µg/m³, Lucknow remains above the 60 µg/m³ NAAQS, making sustained action essential.

Global Initiative on 6G Technology

Context: India has joined the US-led global initiative with 24 other countries to promote secure, interoperable and competitive 6G networks.

About G20 Innovation Ministerial Meeting

• The G20 Innovation Ministerial Meeting focused on leveraging emerging technologies to promote innovation, productivity, economic growth and inclusive development.
• Venue and Host: The meeting was held on September 1–2, 2026, at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, and was hosted by the US Department of Commerce and White House OSTP.
• India’s Participation: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada led India’s delegation and held discussions with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on 6G cooperation, semiconductors, AI and data centres.

About Global Initiative on 6G Technology

• The “Call to Action for 6G Leadership and Security”, coordinated by the United States National Telecommunications and Information Administration (US NTIA) , seeks to shape secure, open and competitive 6G networks.
• Key Participants: The initiative brings together the United States and 24 other countries, including India, the UK, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Finland and Sweden.
• Objectives: To strengthen cybersecurity and network resilience, promote Open RAN and interoperability, integrate trusted AI, and influence global 6G standards through bodies such as 3GPP and ITU.
