Context: The Global Dryland Congress 2026 is being held in New Delhi from September 10–12 to advance climate-resilient and sustainable dryland agriculture.
About Global Dryland Congress 2026
- Introduction: The three-day Congress brings together over 800 scientists, policymakers, farmer representatives and development partners from Asia, Africa and the Americas.
- Organised By: The Congress is jointly organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
- ICRISAT is a non-profit organization that conducts agricultural research to improve dryland farming and reduce poverty in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, with its headquarters located in Hyderabad, Telangana.
- Theme: “Transforming Dryland Agriculture with South-South Cooperation.”
- Key Events
- Delhi Declaration on Dryland (3D): The Congress is expected to culminate in the adoption of the Delhi Declaration on Dryland.

- Locations: Mahajan Field Firing Ranges (Bikaner, Rajasthan)
- Focus: High-altitude warfare, long-range precision fires, counter-drone operations and operational interoperability.
- U.S. Participation: Arctic-trained troops from the 11th Airborne Division and the 3rd Multi-Domain Task Force (3MDTF).
Significance: The exercise reflects the growing India-U.S. defence partnership and its increasing emphasis on multi-domain operations, unmanned systems, precision fires and high-altitude combat readiness.
