Context: Tamil Nadu launched the ‘Thaimaman Thanga Modhiram’ (Thaimaman Gold Ring) scheme.

About the Scheme

Thaimaman Thanga Modhiram Scheme

  • The Scheme provides a 1-gram BIS hallmarked gold ring to every newborn delivered in a government institution.
    • This scheme is a tribute to the traditional Tamil custom of welcoming a child with a gold gift from the maternal uncle.
  • Objective: To encourage institutional deliveries and strengthen public confidence in government healthcare facilities. 
  • Eligibility: Mothers must provide any one of the prescribed Tamil Nadu residency/identity documents, including Aadhaar, voter ID, ration card, or residency certificate.

 

India’s First Port-Based E-Methanol Production Facility

Context: The foundation stone was laid for India’s first port-based e-methanol production facility at Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, Gujarat, aimed at supplying green fuel to ships.

About The Project

E-Methanol Production Facility

  • Capacity: The plant will produce 150 tonnes of e-methanol per day using renewable power, water and biogenic CO₂.
  • Phased Development:
    • Phase I: 50 tonnes/day capacity with an investment of ₹1,200 crore.
    • Phase II: Additional 100 tonnes/day with an investment of ₹1,100 crore.
  • Total Investment: ₹2,300 crore.
  • Implementing Agencies: Joint initiative of Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) and Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd. (APCL).
  • End Use: E-methanol will be supplied as a lower-carbon fuel for ships, supporting cleaner maritime transport.
  • Employment: Expected to generate over 3,500 direct and indirect jobs.

About E-methanol 

  • E-methanol is a synthetic, liquid biofuel produced by combining captured carbon dioxide with green hydrogen generated from renewable energy water electrolysis. 
  • Carbon-Neutral Cycle: It releases only the absorbed carbon dioxide during its production when burned, making it a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
  • Compatibility: It serves as a direct, high-energy-density replacement for conventional methanol without requiring modifications to existing storage infrastructure or engines.

India–UAE Local Currency Trade

Context: India and the UAE agreed to strengthen local-currency trade settlement and payment-system integration, targeting US$200 billion bilateral trade by 2032.

About India-UAE High Level Joint Task Force on Investments (HLJTFI)

  • India- UAE HLJTFI is a strategic bilateral platform designed to promote trade, expand investment flows, and resolve challenges faced by investors in both nations.
  • Origin: The task force was established in 2013 to strengthen economic and commercial ties following a mutual agreement to deepen the cross-border investment partnership.
  • 2026 Meeting : The 14th HLJTFI meeting was held in Mumbai, India in September, 2026.
  • Key Outcomes
    • Investment Boost: The UAE indicated an intent to invest an additional $25 billion in India.
    • Project Advance: Reaffirmed progress on the Gujarat Food Park and a $11.5 billion aluminium complex in Odisha.
    • Fintech Linkage: Accelerated plans for local-currency trade settlements and linking India’s UPI with UAE’s payment platforms.
  • Local Currency Settlement: Both countries are advancing mechanisms to settle bilateral trade using the Indian Rupee (INR) and UAE Dirham (AED), reducing dependence on third-party currencies and transaction costs.

About India–UAE Trade

  • United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranks as India’s third-largest trading partner (China (1st) and USA (2nd)), functioning as a vital economic bridge and re-export gateway.
  • Total Bilateral Trade: India–UAE bilateral trade reached US$101.25 billion in FY 2025-26.
  • India’s Exports: India exported goods worth approximately US$37.35 billion to the UAE with a net deficit.
    • Major Exports  include Gems and jewellery; Engineering goods; Petroleum products and Electronic goods.
    • India’s Major Imports include Crude petroleum and petroleum products, Gold and precious metals
  • Non-Oil Trade: Bilateral non-oil trade stood at US$76.2 billion in 2025, highlighting diversification beyond hydrocarbons.
  • Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA):
    • India and the UAE signed the CEPA in 2022, which entered into force on 1 May 2022.
    • The UAE eliminated duties on 97% of tariff lines, covering about 99% of imports from India by value.
    • The agreement has supported expansion in trade, investment and market access between both economies.
  • Future Target: The two countries aim to increase bilateral trade to US$200 billion by 2032.

 

AASHVAST Labs

Context: The Indian Army plans to establish six AASHVAST labs nationwide to screen military drones for hardware and firmware-level vulnerabilities.

About AASHVAST Labs

  • AASHVAST is a specialised Firmware Analysis and Validation Suite designed to identify hardware and firmware-level vulnerabilities in military electronic systems, initially focusing on drones.
  • Developed By: QuickPay Pvt. Ltd. for the Directorate General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (DG EME).
    • The Indian Army plans to establish six labs nationwide, with the first inaugurated in Delhi.
  • Objectives
    • To detect vulnerabilities embedded in firmware, software and electronic components.
    • Identify foreign-origin or unauthorised components and potential supply-chain security risks.
    • Prevent vulnerabilities that could cause military equipment to malfunction or be remotely compromised.
  • Key Features
    • Firmware & Backdoor Detection: Identifies hidden codes, passwords, hardcoded encryption keys, remote-access tools and concealed commands embedded in firmware.
    • Time & Location-Based Vulnerabilities: Detects geospatial bugs that trigger malfunction at specific coordinates and time-based logic bugs activated at predetermined times.
    • Hardware & Supply-Chain Verification: Examines electronic components for foreign-origin parts, including potentially misrepresented components, strengthening hardware security and supply-chain verification.
  • Significance: AASHVAST enhances cyber resilience and operational reliability by detecting vulnerabilities that conventional physical inspection may overlook.

KAZIND-2026

  • KAZIND is the India–Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise focused on enhancing military interoperability and joint counter-terrorism capabilities.
  • Terrain: Training will focus on operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain.
  • Key Activities:
    • Counter-Terrorism Operations: Responses to terrorist attacks, raids, search-and-destroy and cordon-and-search operations.
    • Air Mobility: Securing helipads and landing sites and conducting Special Heliborne Operations.
    • Unmanned Systems: Integrated employment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and counter-UAS capabilities.
    • Joint Command Post: To facilitate coordinated planning and operational execution.
    • Intelligence and Surveillance Centre: To support joint intelligence, surveillance and operational coordination.
    • Validation Exercise: Joint application of the tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) practised during training against a simulated terrorist threat.
