GS II: India and its neighborhood relations.
Context: The Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), 1960 has come under renewed strain amid India–Pakistan tensions, disputes over hydropower projects, parallel arbitration processes and growing concerns over cross-border terrorism and climate change.
The Indus Waters Treaty faces a new security and climate reality. India needs a calibrated approach combining strategic interests, institutional clarity, climate resilience and diplomatic engagement to protect its water and energy interests while avoiding further regional instability.
