Context: Following the breakdown of negotiations with Washington and the implementation of a 50 per cent US tariff on roughly $28 billion of Canadian goods, Ottawa and New Delhi are accelerating bilateral economic engagement to diversify away from American trade exposure.
As weaponized trade policies disrupt traditional North American supply chains, deepening India-Canada trade ties offers a strategic buffer. Converting shared tariff vulnerabilities into long-term commercial integration will depend on navigating residual agricultural and service-sector friction to finalize CEPA.
