The government is implementing a range of schemes aimed at the welfare and upliftment of minority communities, particularly the economically weaker and less privileged sections

About Minority Communities

• The Central Government determines minority status under the National Commission for Minorities Act (NCMA), 1992.
• Six notified minority communities—Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Parsi, and Jain—are the focus of these empowerment initiatives.

Schemes 

• Educational Empowerment: Includes Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, and Merit-cum-Means based scholarships aimed at supporting students from minority communities.
• Skill Development & Livelihood:
  • PM VIKAS: The Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan programme focuses on skill development and training for artisans and craftspeople from minority communities.
  • Loan Schemes: Implemented through the National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) to support income generation and education.
• Infrastructure Development:
  • PMJVK: The Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram targets infrastructure development in minority-concentrated areas to ensure inclusive growth.

Grievance Redressal Mechanism

• Legal Provision: Under Section 9(d) of the NCM Act, 1992, the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) is empowered to address grievances of minority individuals.
• Coordination Role: The Commission coordinates with relevant authorities to ensure complaint resolution.
