Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0

The Union Ministry of Education released the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0 report for the year 2023–24. 

Key Findings from the Report

• Chandigarh topped the PGI 2.0 with a score of 719, entering Grade Prachesta-1 the highest-performing category.
• Meghalaya ranked the lowest, with a score of 417, falling in Grade Akanshi-3 
• No State or UT reached the highest grade band (761–1,000), indicating considerable scope for improvement nationwide.
• 24 States/UTs improved their scores from the previous year; 12 declined.
• • States with declining scores: Bihar, A&N Islands, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, West Bengal
• Ten States/UTs (e.g., Punjab, Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra) are in Grade Prachesta-3
• Middle-ranking (Akanshi-1: 521–580) States include Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, J&K, and others.
• Bottom-tier (Akanshi-2:) includes Telangana, Assam, Bihar, Manipur, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and others.
• Best Performers by Domain:
  • Access to Education: Bihar and Telangana showed highest improvement in student enrolment, retention, grade transition, and integration of out-of-school children.
  • Infrastructure Development: Delhi, J&K, and Telangana made the most progress in terms of Toilets, drinking water, electricity, ICT facilities, libraries, textbooks, and uniforms.
