About Rajbhasha Utkrishtta Sammaan
- The Rajbhasha Utkrishtta Sammaan recognises outstanding and sustained performance by Ministries/Departments in the implementation and promotion of the Official Language (Hindi).
- Organised by: The award is conferred by the Department of Official Language (DOL) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
- The 2025–26 award will be presented during the Hindi Diwas Sammelan scheduled for 14 September 2026 in Navi Mumbai.
- Award Categories:
- Ministries / Departments: Grouped by staff size, such as offices with 300 or more personnel versus those with fewer than 300 personnel (the category won by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances).
- Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs): Categorized by public enterprises and central undertakings implementing official language protocols.
- Boards, Autonomous Bodies & Trusts: Separate tracks for national councils, research bodies, and statutory trusts.
- Nationalized Banks & Financial Institutions: Dedicated evaluation for banking networks promoting Hindi in public communication.
- Town Official Language Implementation Committees (TOLIC): Recognized for coordination across specific municipal zones.
- In-house Magazines / House Journals: Evaluated regionally (Regions A, B, and C) for departmental Hindi publications.
- Special Award: DARPG received the Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar (First) for two consecutive years—2023–24 and 2024–25.
- Under the rules, an organisation receiving the first prize for two consecutive years is not awarded the same Puraskar in the subsequent year.
- In recognition of its continued excellence, DARPG has therefore been selected for the special Rajbhasha Utkrishtta Sammaan for 2025–26.
- 2026 Winner: The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), New Delhi, has been selected for the award in the category of Ministries/Departments with fewer than 300 personnel.
About Hindi Diwas
- Hindi Diwas is observed annually on 14 September in India to promote the use and development of Hindi as the country’s official language.
- Origin: On 14 September 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of the Union under Article 343.
- Hindi Diwas was first officially celebrated on 14 September 1953.
- Objective: The observance aims to promote Hindi, encourage its wider official use, and create awareness about its linguistic and cultural significance.
- World Hindi Day: World Hindi Day is celebrated annually on 10 January to promote Hindi internationally.
